Glossary
FoodPlus - FoodPlus helps people who
regularly rely on food pantries identify and
plan for their immediate and long-term food needs. FoodPlus also
helps these individuals address the possible need for other resources,
such as child care, housing or job training so that
they may achieve long-term financial and social stability.
Kids Cafe - An after-school program for
low-income children that provides nutritious evening meals and
carry-home groceries, academic tutoring, nutrition education and
recreational activities. Kids Cafes also provide on-site family
support services such as parenting classes and children's support
groups.
Food Pantry -- A food distribution agency
that provides its clients food for home
preparation and consumption.
Soup Kitchen -- An organization whose
primary purpose is to provide prepared meals
served in the kitchen for needy clients.
Shelter -- An organization whose primary
purpose is to provide shelter on a
short-term or temporary basis to needy clients.
Foster Parent Association -- A charitable
organization that provides support for
foster parent families.
Food Bank -- A charitable organization
that solicits, receives, inventories, and
stores donated food and grocery products pursuant to grocery
industry and appropriate regulatory standards. These products are
distributed to charitable human-service agencies, which, in turn,
provide the products directly to needy clients through various
programs.
FoodMobile -- A direct service by a
Foodbank of surplus or perishable goods to areas where people are in
need.
